United Nations Pro gram for Human Settlements (UN Habitat)
Following the first UN Conference on Human settlements that adopted the Vancouver Declaration 1 in 1976, UN Habitat was mandated by the UN General Assembly in 1978 to address the issues of urban growth and to promote soc ially and environmentally sustainable cities and communities. UN Habitat is the coordinating agency within the United Nations System for human settlement activities, in collaboration with governments, is responsible for promoting and consolidating collaboration with all partners, including local authorities, private and non governmental organizations in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals ( in particular, Goal 11 of Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient an d sustainable” UN Habitat has been at the forefront of supporting countries to have access to reliable data on urban conditions, and to efficiently monitor and report on global agendas (e. 2030 Agenda, New Urban Agenda).
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC )
As Canada ’s national housing agency, CMHC contributes to the stability of the housing market and financial system, provides support for Canadians in housing need, and offers unbiased housing research and advice to all levels of Canadian government, consumers and the housing industry. CMHC’s aim is that by 2030, everyone in Canada has a home they can afford, and that meets their needs an ambitious goal that cannot be achieved alone. CMHC collaborates with and mobilizes the expertise and energy of governments, non profits, financial institutions, developers, social entrepreneurs and co ops to create the future of housing. CMHC is proud to be leading on Canada’s first ever National Housing Strategy.
Urban Economy Forum Association ( UEF)
is an international non governmental organization working closely with United Nations and international organizations to
advance the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals ( through innovative approaches to urban
management. UEF works to bridge the knowledge and implementation gap between municipalities, academics and the private
sector about municipal finance and urban economy to identify and share best practices. To achieve this, UEF is establishing
pilot and pioneer projects on sustainable urbanisati on in cities throughout the world. The annual Urban Economy Forum is held
once a year to enrich this dialogue and aims to introduce Toronto, Canada as a hub for sustainable urban economy.
The Daniels Corporation Daniels
is one of Canada’s largest and most innovative real estate developers. The company’s development philosophy
emphasizes a ‘beyond the bricks and mortar’ approach to community building. A social infrastructure lens focuses on the
creation of a unique sense of place for each community. Over t he past 35 years, Daniels has utilized this philosophy to build more
than 30,000 award winning homes and apartments, and master planned mixed use communities, including commercial and retail
spaces. Daniels partnered with Toronto Community Housing to redevelop Phases 1, 2 and 3 of the Regent Park revitalization, a
69 acre community in the heart of Toronto. At the core of the project is both a physical and social re connection of this once
stigmatized neighborhood to the broader City of Toronto. Daniels continues to play an important role in the Regent Park
Community.
Regent Park Community Regent
Park is a neighborhood located in the heart of downtown Toronto and is unlike any other community. It is vibrant, fun,
full of life and diversity with a rich his tory of resident advocacy and community engagement. The community was initially built
in the 1940’s and since then has undergone a transformative urban regeneration process. Acknowledging the importance of
residents in this process, the Social Development Plan ( was established through community consultations and gives
residents a meaningful and practical way to positively impact the quality of their lives. The governance structure of the SDP
enables residents to collaborate with grassroots groups and local stakeholders and focus on the key priorities of safety,
community building, employment and economic development, and communications. To advance the work of the SDP, the
Regent Park Neighbourhood Association ( and the Community Benefits Coalition ( continues to secure investments
and fulfil the CBC’s Community Priority Report released in October 2019. As the community enters the next phase of
redevelopment, Regent Parkers will continue to insist their voices are prioritized, their wisdom respected, and that they are
included in all decisions affecting them. This ensures that the Strong Spirit of Regent Park will continue to flourish.
Other Partners
The Pavilion aims to partner with governments, cities, developers and corporations in its work, and to provide access to
capacity building and resource mobilization for sustainable urbanisation and decent and affordable housing, whi ch is one of the
targets under Sustainable Development Goal 11 Addressing this challenge requires large scale investment, especially in
housing production. As governments alone cannot meet t his challenge, the Pavilion will facilitate the flow of private sector
funds to be channeled into global pilot and pioneer initiatives and housing development.
